Bay View Rolling Mill : The Reason We Exist
Print of painting depicting original blast furnaces at Bay View Iron Mill. The painting is titled "Bay View Blast Furnaces" and was painted by Arthur J. Dadd (American, 1828-1877) in 1871.

What's the story?:
The first blast furnace came into operation in 1870, and was said to be the the largest in the country at the time, at 66 feet in height with a diameter of 17 feet. A second blast furnace of the same size came into operation the following year. Temperatures around the furnaces could climb to 130 degrees fahrenheit, and the air was often filled with smoke.
